With young families driving the growth of Queensland’s fastest growing city, the Ipswich City Council developed Australia’s very first purpose-built library dedicated to children. Designed by Buchan architecture and design firm, it is a vibrant space utilising biophilic design principles while achieving a 5-star green rating in sustainable design.

EchoPanel® 12mm was custom cut as acoustic leaves, fulfilling the canopy design of the library’s signature reading tree. These biophilic design elements speak to the adjacent flora along the Bremer River. It’s sculpted form mimics elements found in nature, bringing needed rejuvenation to urban interiors. Combined with acoustic treatment, the tree not only creates a visual standout, but a peaceful escape for young readers.

Providing further visual delight and targeted sound absorption, EchoPanel® 12mm wall panels supported a colourful assortment of reading nooks and quiet zones. Complemented by a colourful assortment of Focus textile, to provide inviting and comfortable seating. Overall, the projects colour palette was reflective, to keep the area bright and more naturally-lit.

Sustainability was also a key feature of the library design, achieving a 5-star green rating. EchoPanel® contributed to this accomplishment, itself achieving numerous first-rate sustainability credentials, including an Environmental Product Declaration recognised by International Green Building Tools including LEED®, GreenStar®, BREEAM® and WELL™.
