Gray Puksand designed and developed this new expanded MRI department located on the 9th floor of the Royal Melbourne Hospital. They utilised Woven Image’s hero acoustic panel, EchoPanel®, applying custom print artwork alongside standard acoustic wall installations in areas requiring sound dampening with an aesthetic touch.
Balancing existing areas with new floor space, the hospital design is centred around biophilic design principles, including curved forms, timber tones and colours that create warmth and softness countering the notorious “clinical feel” to healthcare facilities. Meeting the strict infection control requirements was a crucial element to this project.
“Acoustic performance was also a key requirement – both from a comfort and privacy perspective – which required working closely with the consultant team to achieve bespoke solutions to each space to ensure the highest standards are met. Through several areas acoustic boards were specified and printed with artworks referencing nature to perform both a functional and aesthetic purpose.”

EchoPanel® 24mm in Sage 580 and Mushroom 454 used in MRI scan rooms and waiting lobbies. Mushroom 454 again in EchoPanel® 12mm was also used to protect the reception and lobby from unwanted noise in areas frequenting high traffic.
